Overview

This FQHC was established as a federally qualified health center (FQHC) in October 1999. As a FQHC, we receive some federal support to provide primary health care, oral health care and behavioral health care to anyone who enters our doors, without regard to socioeconomic barriers, including ability to pay. CCHC, a locally held, private not-for-profit, is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that is required to maintain a consumer majority.

This FQHC offers a wide range of primary care options and focuses on a one stop shop philosophy to provide a caring environment for clinicians and patients.  Our comprehensive approach is complimented by bringing primary medical care, dental care, pharmacy, and testing together in one location.

Over the past 15 years this approach has led to considerable growth.  With the recent completion of its third major expansion this health center is actively recruiting primary care providers to meet rising need for service in central Illinois. Current staff enjoy the integration of service and friendly encouraging atmosphere which allows them to provide a true primary care home for patients.

Community Description

Springfield became the Illinois state capital in 1837 with the help of a young lawyer and politician named Abraham Lincoln. He lived in the city until he left to become the 16th President of the United States, in 1861. From that moment on, the city's history and future have been inexorably tied to this most famous and beloved American citizen. Springfield is the center piece of Illinois political activity. The state capitol building contains a flurry of legislative activity each fall and spring as Illinois is one of the largest and most influential states in the U.S. Springfield is located at the intersection of Interstates 55 and 72. Chicago lies 200 miles northeast of Springfield, St. Louis and Indianapolis lie 100 miles southwest and 195 miles due east, respectively. By plane, Springfield's Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport is linked with the international gateway airports of St. Louis Lambert and Chicago O'Hare for daily flights, as well as Midway Airport in Chicago. And, by train, Amtrak offers daily stops in Springfield between both Chicago and St. Louis. Balanced between the public and private sectors, Springfield has a well-diversified economic base. Springfield serves as headquarters for 12 nationally known insurance companies and more than 165 state, regional, and national associations. The community is recognized as a leader in the health care industry and is home to two major hospitals as well as a world renowned heart surgery institute.
