Overview

The Flex Physician is a valuable member of our Behavioral Health Addiction Programs, which provides direct medical clinical care of residential clients, including ordering of lab tests, completing physicals, counseling of patients, developing treatment plans, and prescribing medication and MAT. Works primarily with residential clients receiving substance use rehabilitation and withdrawal management, as well as crisis services. Coordinates care with the program's psychiatric provider and works in conjunction with the team of RNs, LPNs, and Counselors.

Essential Functions

  • Evaluates clients regarding their treatment needs related to addictions and withdrawal management, manages medical aspects of addictions and withdrawal management, and prescribes medication when appropriate.
  • Performs addictions-related psychiatric or medical evaluations, as requested by other staff members, for purposes of diagnosis and for treatment planning.
  • Conducts crisis intervention/evaluation/referral to persons who present themselves at the program.
  • Consults with staff regarding clients not necessarily seen directly by the physician. This will include, but is not limited to, cases in which medical or psychiatric supervision is necessary for insurance purposes.
  • Responds to inquiries, gives appropriate information and referrals, and documents, if necessary.
  • Provides direct services to clients including individual and group treatment.
  • Focuses on client empowerment in providing treatment, seeking to assist clients to build on strengths in addressing treatment needs.
  • Facilitates with clients and collaborates with the treatment team to develop, review and update treatment goals and referrals both internally and externally.
  • Provides education and direction to clients, family members and/or significant others.
  • Takes responsibility for training in and documenting clinical chart requirements to meet program and state standards.
  • Able to authenticate prescriptions electronically with use of EPCS app on personal phone.
  • Performs duties to meet or exceed productivity, quality and customer services standards.
  • Maintains an awareness of and professional involvement/collaboration with community resources.

Addiction Treatment Program (ATP) residential care specific responsibilities:

  • Medical screening of all potential ATP client candidates, as well as Crisis Care Program (CCP).
  • History and Physical Exams of all ATP withdrawal management (“Detox”) and rehabilitation clients, and of CCP clients as needed
  • Medical treatment for ATP withdrawal management clients, including prescribing medication and monitoring progress.
  • Medical addiction treatment for ATP rehabilitation clients when appropriate, including prescribing Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) Medical care of ATP and CCP clients in residential setting.
  • Coordinating care with ATP nurses and counselors, and with CCP staff when needed.
  • Coordination with ATP and CCP psychiatric care providers.

Job Requirements

Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required

  • Requires graduation from an accredited school of medicine, the completion of one year of residency (internship) in an approved program, and medical license in the State of Illinois. A completed residency in an approved program in a relevant specialty, with Board eligibility is preferred.
  • Post residency experience in Primary Care and Addiction experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work on weekends, holidays and overtime if necessary
  • Current active license from the State of Illinois as a Physician; or a letter from the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation stating that the application for licensure endorsement has been approved, with receipt of Illinois license following within six months of initial application date for endorsement. Current active and unrestricted Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) from the State of Illinois
  • Registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)
  • DATA 2000 Waiver from the DEA.
  • Must reside in Illinois or Wisconsin.
